Spanish films to feature at Human Screen Festival 2026 in Tunisia

The Spanish Embassy in Tunisia will participate in the 11th Human Screen Festival – Karama Tunisia. The event runs from 3 to 7 November 2026. This year’s slogan is “Occupy the Screen, Occupy the Space.”

The Spanish selection features three films about human rights, migration and occupation. Together, they explore personal identity and social realities. Moreover, they highlight cinema’s role in raising awareness of important issues.

Three Spanish films in the programme

Over the Waves, directed by Horacio Alcalá, explores personal ambitions and identity crises. The 99-minute film also reveals the secrets surrounding an island community. Through these themes, it examines the relationship between individuals and their social environment.

Meanwhile, In the Shadow of the River addresses migration and border crossings. Emiliano Reyes Colina and Jesús García Nuño de la Rosa directed this five-minute film. It focuses on the dreams and hopes of people who cross borders. However, their journeys can also bring disappointment and uncertainty.

The third film, Palestinian Land. Global Shift, is directed by Claudio Lara. Running for 72 minutes, it examines life under occupation. In addition, it uses archival material and testimonies to explore the importance of international solidarity.

Cinema and human rights

Through this participation, Spain reaffirms its commitment to cinema as a tool for dialogue. The selection also supports awareness of human rights and social justice.

Furthermore, the festival provides a platform for films that address pressing social and political questions. From migration to occupation, these works bring different experiences to the screen. Ultimately, they invite audiences to reflect on the realities behind the stories.
