BAID ALIK
Bassolino unveils « BAID ALIK », the second chapter of his forthcoming album « Popoli Del Mare » on Jakarta Records. The track is born from a luminous collaboration with Tunisian artist Marzouk Mejri, whose signature percussion and soulful voice anchor the piece in the rich traditions of his homeland.
Sung in Tunisian dialects, Marzouk Mejri’s words move with disarming simplicity: tender confessions of love, quiet nostalgia, and a longing inseparable from the emotional palette of the Mediterranean. His call is one of freedom, a yearning that drifts beyond borders.
The collaboration had been long in the making. Bassolino had admired Marzouk for years, drawn to his magical sound and his integral role in Neapolitan musical culture. Though earlier attempts to collaborate didn’t materialize, the idea persisted, eventually culminating in this project.
The project was born in France during a studio session in Limoux, organized by Jakarta Records and Habibi Funk. There, Bassolino began jamming with Charif Magarbane, experimenting and evolving the song through numerous versions until it reached its final form. The process turned into a musical journey, layering melodies and rhythms that reflect both artists’ shared vision.
Bassolino’s instrumental paints a melody that flows like an eternal Mediterranean breeze : warm, infinite, and restless. Guitar, saxophone, piano, and percussion weave together in an ever-shifting dialogue, creating a circle of motion that mirrors the tides.
The meeting of their sounds becomes a conversation between two shores, Napoli and Tunisia, bound by history and carried together on the currents of the Mediterranean.
At its heart, « BAID ALIK » carries a powerful message: the pursuit of freedom and love. The music moves in endless motion : restless, ever-shifting, yet always returning to its core.
It is a beautiful odyssey, carrying the listener to infinity and back home.
