La Symphonie des Légendes: when music becomes access to water
On April 16, 2026, the Opéra de Tunis will host an event where music moves beyond performance into tangible impact. Titled La Symphonie des Légendes, this charity concert, led by the Rotary Club Tunis Médina, aims to fund a sustainable access-to-water project in the governorate of Siliana, benefiting 1,350 families.
The intention behind the evening is direct: to turn a cultural experience into real-world change. Designed as a dialogue across eras and styles, the concert brings together more than 160 artists. Under the direction of conductor Hafedh Makni, with choral direction by Mourad Gaaloul, the Orchestre Symphonique de Carthage collaborates with the opera to deliver a large-scale musical production.
The program reflects this openness. It pays tribute to iconic Arab voices such as Oum Kalthoum, Abdelhalim Hafez, Farid al-Atrash, and Fayrouz, alongside a celebration of Tunisian musical heritage. The repertoire also extends to Western classics, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to global popular figures like ABBA, Charles Aznavour, and Dalida. This deliberate blend creates a space where genres and generations intersect.
Beyond the stage, the purpose remains firmly grounded. All proceeds will go toward the “Eau pour tous” project, which plans to install solar-powered pumping systems to secure access to drinking water in rural areas facing recurring shortages. In these regions, such infrastructure is not just an upgrade but a necessity.
Behind this initiative stands the Rotary Club Tunis Médina, a local chapter of Rotary International. For several years, the club has been actively engaged in social, educational, and health-related projects across Tunisia, focusing on practical interventions that respond directly to community needs. Its approach is grounded in long-term impact rather than one-off actions, often combining local partnerships with international Rotary networks to mobilize resources and expertise.
Supported by the Ministère des Affaires Culturelles and the leadership of the Opéra de Tunis, La Symphonie des Légendes reflects a broader collaboration between cultural institutions and civic actors.
